I am on Mastodon. No idea how to use it yet. This should be interesting.

A conspicuously bleary eyed Paul & Linda McCartney respond to having been busted growing pot on their farm by giving off massive stoned teenagers trying to fool parents through barely suppressed giggle vibes - followed by the best transition in documentary history

Oh absolutely - there’s a huge difference between an autistic person excitedly recognising common traits and an NT person scathingly dismissing all poor behaviour as “must be on the spectrum”

And while we’re here, treating us cruelly, forcing us into physically painful situations, refusing to accommodate us & insisting that exposure will “fix” us isn’t you preparing us for the real world - it’s just you being a cunt. The world doesn’t *have* to be full of cunts.

I found out I was autistic because another autistic person told me I was. It changed my life. It very likely saved my life. Thank god they did it. Autistic folks suggesting others *might* be like us isn’t an insult. If you think it is, that’s your issue, not ours.

And if you’re offended at the word “autistic”, if you’re offended on someone’s behalf at the notion that they might *be* autistic, if you view autism as a pejorative, then… well, fuck you?

If your baseline is “I can do these things easily therefore if I encounter someone who can’t, they’re doing it deliberately for attention / because they’re spoiled / whatever other nonsensical reason”, you’ve got it arse backwards.

Estimates are that between 1 in 100 and 1 in 20 of us are autistic. I guarantee you’re constantly encountering many people whose legs are frantically kicking away underwater to hide how hard everyday things are for them. That’s an awful lot of us to hold to neurotypical standards

If you’re so offended at the idea of recognising common autistic traits when it’s so massively underdiagnosed that you refuse to make basic allowances & accommodations for people displaying them, you’re guaranteeing misery for vast swathes of undiagnosed autistic folks

It’s very telling how apoplectic people get when you’re like “consider someone might be undiagnosed autistic & treat them with compassion instead of judgment”

A lot of NT folks in comments & QT asking what autism might have to do with not eating vegetables. Some autistic people have severe food aversions, sometimes related to specific tastes, textures or certain foods touching, sometimes (in my case) severely restricted diets (ARFID).

I don’t know if the people in question are actually autistic. What I do know is they’ve expressed traits and difficulties that are extreme enough in their lives for them to find certain things incredibly challenging. Regardless of what underlies it, that should be treated kindly.

I’d rather assume they may very well be undiagnosed autistic & approach them with the sensitivity, discretion & respect I would have loved before my diagnosis than berate them for not being able to do certain things & make them attempt very difficult things for them on TV.

…as a baseline. Not because I am qualified to diagnose them but because when someone ticks that many boxes, they genuinely might not know & might be masking the hell out of it. When I was undiagnosed, people pressuring me to “just try a bit” in front of others was humiliating.

This did bigger numbers than I expected so just to address a criticism: I’m not diagnosing anyone. If I encounter someone IRL with massive food aversions, special interests, a need for sensory friendly clothing, social anxiety etc. I approach their needs as if they’re autistic…

Funny and charming and with great and accurate autistic and fat representation (I'd expect Sara to get autism right because she's autistic herself, but she gets the fat character very right as well).

Currently reading an ARC of 's upcoming novel Eight Bright Lights. It's a romcom which is not my genre, so I don't have much baseline, but it's good enough that I'll be recommending it far and wide.

I love Queer Eye but they urgently need training on neurodivergence because if I have to sit through them shaming one more very probably undiagnosed autistic person for not being able to eat vegetables or dressing for comfort I’m going to flip a table

Got a phone call from an unknown number. Didn’t answer because, you know, autism. Got a voicemail. Social services “reaching out to check in” because I’m autistic. I know it’s probably harmless but it’s freaked me out. What do they want? How did they get my number? Feels sinister

When Conservative MP Daniel Kawzynski attended NatCon back in 2020 he was forced to apologise for his unacceptable appearance at the "far right" event.
Three years on and not only are senior Cabinet members attending but they do so with the explicit support of the PM himself.

I’m going to exercise *my* freedom of speech to say that in addition to the sheer cuntery that comes out of his mouth, his face is so comically cunty, a casting director casting a cunt would be like “too on the nose, he looks straight out of central cunting”
