In late 2017, Kabul Municipality launched the development of the BRT line, an 8 KM route between Deh Afghanan and Sara-e-Shamali. The BRT line was supposed to be complete in 2019. Currently, the project is stalled due to endless red tape and turn-over of city officials.pic.twitter.com/w5FyWhrhzl
In July 2018, a bidding request for the procurement of BRT buses was launched by KM. In August 2018, KM officials told @TOLOnews that the main reasons for the delay was a lack of capacity on the part of local companies and a lack of interest by foreign companies.
The same report states that an Indian company had won the bid for the procurement of the BRT buses and finalization of the project. Yet, no updates have been provided, two years later. The BRT line is estimated to cost up to USD $250 million - with no completion in sight.

Kabul Roads are not feasible for BTR. There is more to this than red tape.
Yes, BRT has some significant cons to consider but there are other forms of RT that can be implemented! Great examples are out there, like Curitibia City in Brazil, which has similar concerns to Kabul’s layout/density
