🙌🏻“If the teaching and learning in your classroom begins with Google, Pinterest, or finding a cool activity... If students fixate on the task or experience and are unable to explain what they learned and what they need to learn next, you definitely have a clarity problem.”

If your Tier 1 interventions are not meeting student needs, then nobody meets the bar. It's all about the base. We can't band-aid weak systems with a Tier 2 intervention.

This study tells us retention of info from lectures dips when kids attention is divided on digital devices. The magic of in class, folks, isn't in taking notes for lectures. It's about creating. Collaborating. Connecting to other people.

What would happen if we shifted the question from “How well are kids behaving?” to “How well are kids engaged?” When we shift to the focus on engagement, behavior improves.

No kid ever complained their teacher messed up a lesson. But if you try something new, they will brag about you at recess. Be brave, go try, today is the day.

Don't spend 90% of your energy/time giving feedback on finished product, put that 90% into giving students feedback as they work!

"Being yourself. Telling the truth. Taking a close look. Those are the things a writer cannot survive without...we make a mistake when we begin with technique. We need to begin with our students, who they are, what they feel. Writing lives inside us."~ Vicki Spandel

If you walk by something that is not up to standard & you choose to do nothing, then you have helped to create a new lower standard.

"Differentiated instruction" is not the goal... but it is the inevitable result when teachers are committed to the success of every student.
