💯 For those of us who have covered Trump since 2016, it is hard to overstate how utterly inevitable and unsurprising yesterday’s insurrection felt. There was this amazing — disturbing — video we produced of racism and violence at Trump rallies. 👇(1/3)

Yup. This has been building since the very first Trump rallies. Five years of Trump fanning the flames while other Republicans emboldened him or simply pretended they didn’t see the fire burning in front of their eyes.

i cant really wrap my head around the fact people who violently breached the building, and trashed it were allowed to just...leave the capitol.

There were armed vehicles in Downtown DC this summer. Think about that. Has anyone been arrested yet today for what has transpired? Where is the overwhelming force to clear the Capitol grounds?

I wish I could play over and over and over on how unbelievable it is to see the total lack of police response to a coup attempt at the Capitol after the alphabet soup of law enforcement we saw this summer for BLM protests.

No president in American history has called into television control rooms more than Donald J. Trump to be interviewed on air. But today, silence from the White House. If there was ever a time for a presidential statement or leadership, now would be that time.

Again: the lights are blinking clearly that the willingness to subvert the election in the GOP extends far beyond Trump. These are officials too obscure to be afraid of him; these are officials willing to join his crusade to overturn the will of the voters.
