Found out I was pregnant the week of March 13, 2020. That kid is now 19 months old and has never been in a store, the library, or a restaurant. And now he's going to get vaccinated and get to explore the world a little. I'm actually crying.

I had a roommate who would stress eat watermelon, then get drunk, then decide that her "food baby" was an actual baby, buy it baby clothes online, and then fall asleep and wake up the next day and do it all again. We had so many baby clothes.

In seventh grade, my crush told me he wanted a sax solo in jazz band so I went out and learned how to play the sax and took his solo so he’d be impressed by me. I was very surprised when he then didn’t talk to me for YEARS.

I feel like anyone bemoaning the declining birth rate in the US doesn't understand that between student loans, childcare, and a mortgage (if you're lucky), many families are paying basically three mortgages every single month.

So don't listen to her. Keep speaking up. Keep sharing your story. Remember that in doing so, you're making her and every one of these cowardly Senators face up to the choice that they are making. And don't ever, EVER let them silence you.

"I love tough guys. We need tough guys" is something the President of the United States just said, so, points for toxic masculinity or something.

I had a dr apologize to me that I “might have to wear a mask at the hospital” if they don’t drop the mask mandate. It’s a hospital!! A L&D floor! People had better be wearing fucking masks!!

There is simply no reason for one campaign to email me, on the same email address, at 5:56pm, 8:07pm, 9:18pm, 9:29pm, and 10:27pm. This is how you lose trust. This is how you lose subscribers. This is why people complain about email fundraising.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but stop pressuring your friends and family members to hang out in ways they aren't comfortable doing during the pandemic.

But this language gives a message. It gives the message that not only did women stepping up and sharing their stories not matter, but in fact, that by doing so, they caused more pain and trauma. THAT IS A LIE.

It's so damn expensive. And out of pocket costs for births can be so expensive. And if you need any medical help getting to that point, it's so expensive. Of course people are opting out, or waiting later, so they have a chance of affording it.

It's all bullshit, of course. Collins didn't make her decision because of the sexual assault survivors any more than I think she believes the lies she tells about Roe v. Wade being safe under Kavanaugh.

And what hurts me the most in all of this is how complicit Susan Collins is. How responsible she is for the hurt and the pain and the sorrow and the rage so many of us are feeling right now.

But this isn't just about how Susan Collins felt. This is about sending a message. A message to survivors that they did this. They caused this. That once again, they were responsible for their own trauma.

Inauguration in DC terrifies me. Don't do it, please, . Just get sworn in, do something over skype, we can do fancy balls another time.

NEW: Biden inauguration planners are dealing with a logistical nightmare. Not just grappling with the threat of COVID but also fearing that if their own people don’t show up to celebrate, Trumpers will fill the void with heckling and protests thedailybeast.com/biden-world-fe

I had one roommate who for months would complain about how cold her room was, but she lived upstairs and I never went up there. FOR MONTHS. Turned out, she'd forgotten to close the window when she took out her AC in September and forgot to check until her BF came over in February

I'm also sure she didn't like being reminded that her upholding white supremacy came at a cost. I'm sure she didn't like seeing that cost on the faces of women who looked like her, but more courageous.

After all, Collins implies, if they hadn't flooded her office, the hallways, the streets, and laid bare their pain, then maybe she would have made the choice they wanted.

While I admit that this is likely due to living/working/existing in a progressive bubble, I had zero idea just how prevalent anxi-vaxxer nonsense was until I got pregnant. It's in every online community, every conversation, every spot you go for info. I hate it.

Mental health doesn't make folks any more likely to commit violent crimes - but does make them more likely to be victims of violent crimes, so take mental health out of your mouth and talk about the guns that are killing children.

DC is not the largest city, but this pattern of calling anything in DC "near the White House" really needs to stop. Columbia Heights is not near the White House. Look at a map.

I'd also say - EVEN IF IT WAS ONIONS, sane people would avoid. I have a very bad onion allergy! It's pretty scary sometime! And my inlaws are fantastic about it. They make sure that there's always plenty of food I can eat, and when I can't, make VERY certain I am still fed safely

I don't think many non-parents really realize how much parents are holding their breath for schools or daycares to shut down from COVID scares, and how much it's impacting our stress levels but also our ability to plan or commit to anything (work, personal, etc).

Went on a first date, and the guy ordered us a single Miller Lite, to share. Then when the check came, he asked for exact change for my half of the $3 beer, and was VERY upset when I didn't have cash. (Then he wrote about it as part of DC's dating problem...)

Am I just making up that Pfizer actually had data that their vaccine was pretty effective for 6m-2yr, arguably the category that are most impacted by the removal of mask mandates and then just....didn't get it approved?

It is absolutely mind-blowing to me that anyone, anyone at all, sees the choice about when and whether to have children as anything other than a fundamentally economic issue.

Because apparently I have to specify this - we still plan to be cautious. We've worked so hard to keep our family safe, and will continue to do so. But I'm also damn excited to have a layer of protection for my kid.

I’m sad to have Gillibrand out of the race. She made the field stronger, and while I love many of the candidates left, I hope her voice and activism for women and victims of sexual assault and harassment don’t go unnoticed.

There's a dump truck on our block, and the toddler has set up with his favorite chair, snacks, and a perfect view to watch for as long as they're here.
