Having implemented my recently I have one piece of advice - don't wait too long. The longer you stay in academia the harder it will be find jobs and transition to a new environment.

This paper is absolutely amazing! If the thalamic populations driving motor cortex are the same populations as driven by GPi, then this might be a clean mechanism for the how the basal ganglia contribute to action “selection” too.

My collaborator the great Martin Szinte has produced yet another awesome piece of work: Their team show that, well, the title says it all: Sounds are remapped across saccades. This is some cutting edge multisensory and eye movement research right here!

We propose that, with the integration of value and feedback, visual regions could learn to prioritize the processing of high-value features to later support optimal response selection via the dorsal striatum in future choices. But if you have other thoughts let us know :)!

But, why would BOLD in perceptual regions be modulated by value beliefs and signed RPEs? To answer this, we focus on the ranking (importance) of regions in the correct prediction of value-driven choice outcomes. Here, again an important role is found for perception.

In a later test phase, where feedback is no longer given, we find that future value-driven choices can be predicted (decoded) with an accuracy of 70% - by combining trial-by-trial BOLD from perceptual, prefrontal, and striatal regions with the Random Forest ML method.

During the learning phase we also find BOLD in both striatal and perceptual regions to be modulated by the signed and unsigned RPE, after the presentation of feedback.

During learning, across trials, we show that BOLD in the dorsal striatum *and* perceptual regions is modulated more by values of the (to-be) chosen face when the feedback scheme is reliable (80% valid).

We re-analyze data from a fMRI study using a probabilistic learning task, where we obtain trial-by-trial value beliefs (Q-values) and reward prediction errors (RPE) by using a Bayesian hierarchical Q-learning model.

Very excited that my newest paper with J. Theeuwes and is now published. We show an important role for perceptual regions - alongside striatum and PFC - in the prediction (decoding) of future value-driven choice outcomes. (1/7)

New preprint out! We show that a boost in moment-to-moment neural variability in frontal cortex strongly reflects how much people shift their decision bias to become more liberal. w/ and Ulman Lindenberger
