There has not been enough conversation about this during the awareness month and it makes the topic feel invisible during the most visible manifestation time of mental illness we have ever seen.
May is #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth, and I know the past few months have been challenging for many. We need to remain committed to protecting and expanding everyone’s access to mental health services.

Aside from mental illness, there should be more conversation about checking in with yourself. There are so many people in denial, and that denial is costing lives because they refuse to follow CDC guidance. Denial is a form of grief. If they are educated, they will be aware.

Expanding MaineCare was a good start. Raising the reimbursement rates for Providers that LePage slashed during his tenure would help with retention and recruitment. If people are paid less than a bagger at Hannaford, they will not opt for helping others in the MH field.

Every MH Caseworker I ever had to deal with was lacking in their understanding or had a huge chip (power trip) on their shoulder. Waste of the rainy day fund the first days of the Mills administration!
