Who were the sitting judges at the time that’s important to lay out for everyone
David Souter who wrote a scathing dissent re: John Roberts malfeasance and failure to follow due process was one of the judges. Roberts squashed his dissent by closing the case and announcing it would be reopened. He did this because he knew Souter was resigning.

Associate Justice John Paul Stevens argued that Court's ruling represented "a rejection of the common sense of the American people, who have recognized a need to prevent corporations from undermining self government." And he was right.
