I’m instituting a new personal policy of responding to all texts/messages/emails from friends, friendly acquaintances, and family within 24 hours.
I’m putting this here for accountability and to give permission for people to call me out if I fail to do this.

With close friends and immediate family, it is. When it comes to fb/Twitter messages from long-distance friends, I can be really bad about not responding promptly, or at all. It’s not a good trait.

For those I jump straight to a call, it's faster, and feels wonderful to stay connected to them

This is a great idea. Incorporating more voice and video communication (when in-person isn’t an option) is another thing I’ve been wanting to do.

It's a little hard to overcome because so many people have the habit of not calling and avoiding the initial awkwardness.
But I just don't even think about it and impulsively call. And its much smoother if you don't even recognize the awkwardness
