Our prisoners are still members of our community. At an average of 85k per year I would rather have another couple of teachers or support another peace officers job. Money for jobs and education, Not for war and incarceration
Yes more money for education would be lovely. In the real world there are dangerous criminals continuously terrorizing communities with no consequence

Legalizing would lead to less violent crime. "“Postponing decriminalization will only make matters worse, and make the problem appear even more intractable.” --Milton Friedman, 1989, in an open letter to Bill Bennett https://www.econ.berkeley.edu/sites/default/files/yablon_daniel.pdf …
The decriminalization of drug use needs to be considered as a core element in any public health strategy. - Organization of American States, 2013 https://www.drugpolicy.org/sites/default/files/documents/Drug-Policy-Alliance-Time-to-Decriminalize-Report-July-2017.pdf …
In San Francisco you basically have decriminalization of drugs. It’s a nightmare for the drug users & housed residents. It is not compassionate to have addicts dying in the streets & residents afraid to leave their homes
"Portugal’s policy rests on three pillars: one, that there’s no such thing as a soft or hard drug, only healthy and unhealthy relationships with drugs;
two, that an individual’s unhealthy relationship with drugs often conceals frayed relationships with loved ones, with the world around them, and with themselves; and three, that the eradication of all drugs is an impossible goal." https://www.theguardian.com/news/2017/dec/05/portugals-radical-drugs-policy-is-working-why-hasnt-the-world-copied-it …
I don't want lawlessness, I want the peace officers to focus on their jobs and restore the missing peace. To do that, I think their job needs to be violent crime, theft and other serious crimes. We're 9/562 in rapes last year, and 1/30000 car break-ins over 3000$ damage.
