Took 5 years until a manager came along who didn't just see an emotionally unstable 0day dropper. For all I care he is the only cool manager in this industry and the only manager I respect.

Kevin Mitnick, Robert Morris, Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, ... All people who may not have had an entirely pristine start, but who became highly respected and trusted and who have greatly advanced our industry for the better.

There -is- a skill shortage in infosec imho But there’s also an abundance of orgs that don’t recognize that in terms of making decent offers. Kind of like wanting to buy a car, demanding it’s high end, only having money for a rust bucket, then complaining the car market sucks.
-
Skills <> experiance either. It’s complex. But the hiring side is what I feel is massively broken. But we also have expectation challenges where people with a small amount of experience are expecting insane money and talk like they know everything... we need better pathways

Everyone wants seniors but nobody wants to grow a junior into a senior. This industry is full of self inflicted issues as paradigm shifts happen consolidating roles.
-
Because most orgs A) are impatient and want instant senior-level results, or B) don’t know how to grow a junior into a senior.

For entry level gigs there is not a skill shortage AT ALL. Getting a job without any experience is a trial for many people. People with 5-10 years experience though, doesn’t matter how much you pay, there is a shortage of people who can work independently.
