Chris, to what do you attribute the contrasting findings, comparing previous studies to the findings of Oranchuk et al (2017)? Thanks!

Contrasting to which previous studies?
-
I don't think there is any contrast there. Those studies compared heavy strength training and Oly. This compared loaded jumps and Oly.
-
Power is load-specific and exercise-specific. Aiming to maximize it as a value in itself doesn't make a lot of sense
-
Aside from the effects of Force- or Velocity-training on Power, shouldn't Power-training focus on exercises and loads that optimize Power?
-
No. We want to improve a performance outcome, not an arbitrary number

Shouldn't such conclusions be based on a whole body of evidence, not just one paper?
-
Correct, but for answering this particular question, this is the only long-term trial

Thanks for sharing my research!

Thanks for doing a great study!

Plus those results seem a little off. You train the hang pull but don't get better results in the IMTP which is the hang pull position
-
Trap bar deadlift jump position is not that different... and specific strength gains post-training are not always totally predictable

All these studies are great but will coaches learn to put the books down and actually go coach.Real world real application just decide.
-
Funny you should say that, but I've met many world-class coaches, and they all talk about how they can find *more* time to read
-
I didn't say reading wasn't essenstial. I said at some stage you just have to put everything down and go apply it......

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/labs/articles/27820725/ … another interesting article re: weightlifting from Helland et al. Competency at O-lifts likely infl. training adapt.

O-lifts are overrated. I've trained 3 Olympic medalists in track and field without the use of Olympic lifts.
