  2. Highland- At 1230p a 3.7 acre brush fire in the wash area w/of the Iron Bridge in the East Highland area. Fire controlled thru the hard work of , resources will continue to mop up into the evening.

    Very heavy rain is currently falling along the Arctic Circle with CHP reporting lots of rocks and debris down on the roadway, especially near Lakeview Point. Travel with caution! Additional storms will fire through the afternoon with heavy rain, lightning, gusty winds & hail.

  9. Will the Forest closure be enforced? Yes. Here’s an example: In this photo from tonight, an investigation of a vehicle spotted in the closure area revealed expired registration over six months out, which is a towable offense.

    A pickup truck with a large camper shell is being towed. A Forest Service law enforcement vehicle is in the foreground.

  13. One of the Big Bear area fires, off the Sugarloaf National Recreation Trail (pictured), continues to smolder. A helicopter is making water drops this morning after crews spent the night on scene. Crews will return today to continue work.

  14. The Idyllwild fires, near Black Mountain, are both 100% contained. One is controlled and out; the other still has interior burning. Crews will be on scene today to continue work.

  17. The two fires on the San Jacinto Ranger District, below Black Mountain are also both due to lightning strikes. BDF Keenwild Helitack copter 535 is making water drops out of Lake Fulmor along Highway 243 to assist firefighters on the ground in gaining containment.

  19. The confirmed fire in Big Bear area is due to a lightning strike and located off of Forest Road 2N71 (Blue Quartz Road) and has been stopped at approximately 50x50 feet. Firefighters are mopping up the tree trunk.

  20. US Forest Service firefighters are responding to two fires below the Black Mountain area, between Pine Cove and Idyllwild. Resources are also responding to a report of smoke in the Big Bear Lake area. Details are forthcoming.
