We need to figure out ways to have town meetings so that more people can easily attend. Likely that young parents can’t make it because... they are taking care of their kids!

I was there with my rambunctious 11 month old. Needless to say, it wasn’t easy and I had to come late (after dinner) and leave early (before bedtime).

Every community meeting is a policy failure

Every neighborhood meeting should get demographic information about the attendees (age, income, education, homeownership status, etc) and should publish a comparison of that to the demographic information of the corresponding census tracts

Easy solution. Your vote at a community meeting is adjusted by a factor based on the actuarial length of time you have remaining in the neighborhood NOT how long you’ve lived there.

Fun seeing someone complain young people don’t show up to a meeting who didn’t tweet about the meeting before it happened, so people might be able to go (people show up when there is outreach). And I still don’t know what project it was about or where it was.

Not always. These mandated meetings have pretty much stopped a charter school construction in my neighborhood. In another part of town, they added considerable benefits to a city-property giveaway.
