Starting off focusing on stability likely isn't the way to go, unless dealing with severe problems. The choice then is when do you stop growing.

Growth is adaptation. So is life. What happens when we stop adapting?

Sooner or later we get into serious trouble. But it can be quite a bit later than most imagine. It is possible to be essentially the same for decades and still do pretty well.

I think that living in supportive systems can mask or mitigate some of the outwardly functional effects of a lack of adaptation. It still catches up to us eventually. Karma, you know. I guess the question is if it catches up with us before we expire.
