This doesn't say anything. At least, not that I could read. A bunch of questions, not an explanation, certainly not "How the Enlightenment Ends".
I am a bit familiar with AlphaGo though. The explanation I read that made the most sense was a number of its moves was simply by being computationally superior. A Go master can generally estimate the value of a move in points, but it's usually somewhat fuzzy, and after a certain
number of moves, both in alternate current moves and multiple moves ahead, it becomes less clear. There's also a survival instinct: evading things that have a "chance" at massive loss. The idiomatic 'if a deer hears a stick crack, 5% chance of a predator means it's time to bolt'.
AlphaGo, rather than using intuition,, does the actual number crunching, because it has the technical capabilities. Big moves aren't part of the search; only moves which are reliable to the final win. And thus it comes up with moves that humans can't find.
On the history of Go side, there's also the argument that masters today will never reach the skill of the old masters simply because of the speed it's played at. Historically, a single game could take months, a single move could take multiple days. This meant more time to think.
He's citing my efforts. Tay was our operation and Butterfly War is Tay on crack.
