It's actually based on an Ira Glass quote that stuck with me when I read it! I paraphrased, but here's the original:

Day 3: got sent over to to hear from and meet awesome people from a wide variety of organizations focused on advocacy for science and research!

Yesterday was a little busy, so here's me on day 2 of being the Genetics & Public Policy Fellow at ASHG ()!

Oh hey apparently it's ! Glad I remembered to wear my closed toe shoes to lab even though I'm not doing experiments today! Here's me with my thesis (wherein I talk about how to poke worms and how touch neurons respond to said poking).

Arshad Desai illustrating the biological question in terms we can all understand - what keeps the Hulk in one state vs the other?

I was reorganizing some folders in my dropbox and I found this animation I made for a class a few years ago showing how worms grow up and respond to touch :D

In addition to telling us a cool story about X chromosome dosage compensation, points out how speaker gender causes differential levels of question-asking.

I'm still amazed at how well everything came together, and how seamless it was to work with this amazing team. DM me if you wanna be part of this next year!

The core team of organizers was made up of the leaders of multiple groups on campus - , , and STAR, and inspired by 's DayCon. So we originally envisioned it as a conference for the general public. 3/

Thread bc I'm still excited about this: Yesterday, ~150 community college students from the Bay Area all the way up to Sacramento came to campus to hear cutting-edge talks and learn about career paths in STEM research! 1/

I made an animation for a class once! It shows how a rapidly adapting mechanoreceptor channel might respond to both the onset and offset of a stimulus if it were gated by membrane stretch.

The list of potential jobs I could have, according to BofA. Why don't they talk about all these options in those alternative career panels?!

Right, so that's why people keep wanting to ban Harry Potter. Keep it up, and all the students organizing protests, you're basically Dumbledore's Army. We need you, and we're standing with you.

Loving the approach to posters! Fun visuals with pretty cool science to boot - go check it out at B395!

I mean it's not like I haven't heard it before from peeps who can't see me as American. "Where are you from? No, I mean, where are you *originally* from?" But it's scarier when it's the Attorney General's favorite question to determine who's a terrorist.
