I wrote for on why private schools aren't "losing" Oxbrdge places; rather we're just starting to see the unfair advantages they've always had countered.

These are areas where the Tories did make significant progress last year and the seats were last fought in 2018 when Labour did relatively well so staying still isn't a bad result for Labour. (They will want to get wins elsewhere in the country.)

Just straws in the wind but a few activists - Lab and Tory - in red wall seats have told me that initial signs from canvassing etc are that the Tories aren't going to make any more gains and may possibly fall back a bit. (Any insights welcome in the DMs).

Arguing about the morality of abortion isn't even the right question, because you can't ban abortion, you can only ban safe and legal abortion.

Whatever you make of the SNP's politics/policies - it's hard not to see Nicola Sturgeon as the country's most successful politician. Eight years in power and still has an approval rating comfortably higher than anyone else.

IMAO (amateur opinion) the more obvious reason the leak benefits the Right is that, instead of the actual opinion coming out as a definite thing to produce a revolution, we have a leak that isn't law yet and produces a partial outlet of steam; when it actually happens, "oh well"

Urgh at this framing. Private schools don't own the places. As more and more state school pupils compete for places of course they will get fewer each year.

Though of course in the meantime the problem itself - which is real - goes unsolved. And the plausible solutions uninvestigated.

Comes to something when the best thing about a Government is its incompetence because at least that prevents it from engaging in deeply cruel and inhumane policies.

Because Roberts wouldn’t join an opinion this vicious in tone even if he joins in the result, any of the 4 joining Alito has the leverage to demand changes in the language. Leaking this maximally harsh version as a trial balloon would magnify that leverage.
