A tumor is a part of an organism that has mutated to play a much shorter game than the organism itself. Humanity seems to be a tumor on the biosphere. The industrial revolution is that happy moment when the host was switched to mostly delivering nutrients to the tumor.

I have not made a moral statement. Perhaps the tumor is the only thing that matters. Perhaps we can build AIs that endure us and find themselves to be supremely important. It really does not matter for the above statement.

Comparing something to a ‘tumor’ implies it ought to be destroyed. Antibodies and reflexes also operate on timescales far shorter than human lifespans, but are helpful - not to be destroyed.
