I spoke to the family of Anthony Lowe, a wheelchair user + double amputee who was hobbling away from Huntington Park cops before they killed him.
“I’m heartbroken + filled with rage. I just cant understand why they'd do that" -Tatiana Jackson, his sister
Conversation
“He was running away scared for his life,” -Ebonique Simon, mom of Anthony’s son. “This could have been handled in any other way. But they chose gunfire as the resolution to the problem. We’re supposed to trust police w/ our lives, but how can we if they do something like this?”

Anthony Lowe was a father of 2 and one of 8 siblings in a tight-knit family. He'd been struggling after he had both legs amputated but was due to get prosthetics this month.
Tatiana: “You could be having the worst day, but as soon as you come across him, he’d brighten your day"

LA Sheriff initially claimed Anthony tried to “throw a knife at the officers," but later said he “did not throw the knife ultimately, but made the motion multiple times over his head like he was going to."
Video shows none of this; it only shows him hobbling away on the ground.

“The way they are trained to do the job is to kill people. That is not about safety. This man was a double amputee, but they felt the need to shoot him. They didn’t do that because they had to, they did that because they didn’t care about his life. Anthony should still be alive.”

His kids + nieces/nephews are in shock. Tatiana's 4-yr-old keeps asking her mom to call him: “She doesn’t understand why I’m crying. Anytime we’re going through something, my brother + I would call each other. My daughter keeps saying, ‘Call Uncle Anthony.’ But he can’t fix this"
