@robertwrighter I'm concerned about the unfalsifiability if the charge of tribalist thinking.

I see no way to argue against this charge - everyone could be accused of tribal thinking at any time and on any subject, merely because they hold similar views to other people.
-
that's kind of the point. Which is why Wright's argument was not to overcome tribalize, but merely to notice it and think critically about whether or not it colours Sam's (and the readers) views.
-
But he isn't actually able to demonstrate how said tribal thing is manifesting in anyway.
-
Demonstrating how said tribal thinking is manifested in Harris was the entire point of Wright's article.
-
He spent the entirety of the article associating Sam with tribes that Sam himself does not identify as a part of. He asserts that because people in general are prone to bias, Sam must therefore be just as tribal in his thinking in every situation as anyone else.
-
Read the article again. Wright specifically says Sam's thinking is similar in kind, but not degree. He did not say Sam is "just as tribal," which was your take-away, but rather that because we are all susceptible in degree we should be more self-aware of them than ever.
-
I don’t agree that the implication was “we” need to be more self-reflective.

People (many being your fans) are more concerned with you denying your tribal group identity. Whether or not you take it seriously, "the intellectual dark web" has emerged as a TRIBE of people who feel like they are part of a team, for better or worsehttp://intellectualdark.website/
-
This may be true, in some cases. But you're blaming
@SamHarrisOrg for this? (He didn't write the NYTimes article, he doesn't use the term "intellectual dark web," and he doesn't display obvious tribalist thinking -- so just what are you asking him to do?) -
Where did I say I was blaming him? I said it's happening either way and implied that his constant denial/defense of it isn't helping.
-
Fair enough (though you don't say that). But while you don't like his defense (or defensiveness), you're missing his implication that grouping all of these other people together with him doesn't by itself show his words are tribally motivated or, more to the point, wrong.
-
I think the denials by Harris speak to his inability to see the homogeneity of the "dark web" tribe. All of the "members" relish in a pseudo-iconoclasm projected through the narrow lens of scientism.
-
Heavy emphasis on the ism.
-
I like a good ism.
-
If Harris went on a speaking tour with Deepok Chopra or Reverend Hagee I'd less surprised than I am at his support of Rubin and Peterson

Um, this has nothing to do with Wright's many good points. You really are a case study in how "being rational" can go horribly wrong, ultimately causing serious damage to the connotation of terms like "atheism" and "critical thinking."

I dont care about all your twitterwars. And I support you for the content of your podcast and not the uninteresting "wars" between what people say about you. Any person with a little intellect gets you, just ignore the rest. Please :)
