But the Divine mind is out of the question? Follow your consciousness arguments to their conclusion, and I'll see you in church, Sam.
-
That is quite a stretch Jonathan. Even accepting the divine does not lead you to church. You will have to show how rituals and dogmas suitable for past time, place and people are still relevant for the modern human. Essence is eternal but form is prescriptive.
-
Millions of people are still finding them relevant. If we find Plato or Aristotle or the pre-socratics to still be relevant today, why wouldn't rituals still be relevant. Especially Eastern Orthodox ones, which have changed but not unrecognizably over hundreds of years.
-
I didn’t reject the possibility. Just pointed out the jump in Jonathan’s reasoning. It will only create a justified defensiveness from Sam. Check my answer to Jonathan.
-
True, but there's so much we can ask from others to show us before we question the honesty of our own reasoning. We're subject to dishonesty just as much as are others who will say we haven't been honest to ourselves since we didn't get to where they predicted.

I'm confused,,, didn't Kant and Schopenhauer talk about this years ago? How is this revolutionary and new ?!
-
People who've read the great philosophers of the past, are often not surprised by the "new theories".
-
its basically his " The World as Will and Representation" people talk about them ,, but i dont think many have read them completely
-
If people read Dostoyevsky, Kant and Nietzsche the "rationalist" filter on reality is destroyed. For example, it is much easier to understand Scott Adams if you are familiar with Dostoyevsky. Sam's podcast with Scott is a masterclass in cognitive dissonance, confirmation bias.
-
is it on YT ? must check that out ..
-
Yeah, it's there on YT. If you're anything like me, you'll be shaking your head most of the time in cringe while listening. Sam is a hot mess of self-contradictions, sadly.
-
i liked his "Spirituality without religion" but started to see beyond his egolessness after this : "when someone asks me for the two-second summary of my new book, I’m often tempted to say, “It’s Eckhart Tolle for smart people" "
-
see the arrogance and narcisism ? thats 200 kg of ego :))

Last year I suggested you should do a podcast with him. I’d really be curious to hear your thoughts on his views.https://twitter.com/captain_outis/status/936448782782402560?s=21 …

It's a shame what goes unnoticed on twitter.
