Brand is a pseudo-intellectual who haphazardly chains together verbs and adjectives in the hope he sounds like he has deep knowledge of a matter. In actuality his patchwork utterances are just surface rhetoric - without meaningful content or scholarly understanding.

Bet you're fun at parties.

I can be. I’ve a little bag of tricks to enthral all present. Thanks for your relevant comment. Have a biscuit.

Jesus. Keep proving his point.

Jeremy and Mark, are you coming to this post through Sam Harris or Russel Brand? Just curious.
-
I follow Sam

My first thought hearing the podcast was "Donny you're out of your element" but then I thought about it & Russel is speaking for a large group of people that might not be familiar with Sam's work. If we (the fans) become snobbish when he talks to celebs then humanity loses.

Hahah
. Same thought crossed my mind. And then i listened. @rustyrockets is no fool. I'm with mr Harris all the way, but "Donny" can certainly hold his own. A very good debate.

Of course he is. And very entertaining. Not meant to be taken seriously, in my opinion.

Apart from sensible and coherent views on drug addiction/rehabilitation, Brand is otherwise a faux-intellect whose vocabulary belies his distinct lack of profundity on almost any matter. Whoever tricked you into doing this should apologise.
-
Isn’t it counter productive to not try and get your point across to anyone who has a distinct lack of profundity? Russell will be the first to admit he is an autodidact who wants to learn more. I too lack profundity but thanks to discussions like these I can learn something!
-
While that is a productive pursuit, I think there is an important difference between thinking critically about a certain subject and using celebrity to promulgate inchoate and meandering views on the nature of reality (or anything else, which Brand is guilty of, in my opinion).

Not sure if I should listen to see what kind of ridiculous stuff Brand says or just skip it.
-
Always listen.

I am most impressed with Sam’s patience with Brand. Sam was the one who tried to have some kind of ordered dialog and needed to get Brand staying on track.
-
Two years of solitary meditation to manage it. Good grief.
