Even in Sam Harris' company, Krauss seems to think that he has the most interesting things to say. He constantly interrupted Sam during this event and podcast 70. He did the same to Lane Craig in Australia. He's very interesting but isn't science supposed to teach humility?

I guess you hear what you want to hear. Sam had something to say so I listened. Craig didn’t.
-
Your debates with Craig in Australia turned me away from Christianity. Until then, he was in my mind the most convincing apologist, even against Hitchens and Sam. Still, your persistent interruptions left me frustrated trying to follow the other speaker's point to conclusion.

Sam: "Rejecting pain disconfirms base-sense experience. Rejecting free will doesn't." Krauss: *Agrees* Sam: "Sense of self is like free will, it can vanish" Krauss: "No. It's like pain, it can vanish" All: *confused conversation* Me: *pulls hair out*

Great conversation, by the way. Thanks for sharing. Just had to get that out.

The Self is as real as a rainbow.
-
It sure seems that way. I still think Krauss's point is valid, though. I think the more interesting argument is which view is more useful... which I still think is "the self is mostly illusion".

@SamHarrisOrg , you should read Walkaway by@doctorow, and then have him on the podcast to talk about a post-scarcity society- the one you fear trillionaires would rule. He has some very interesting ideas and you two are my favorite people in the intellectual sphere. -
I recommend any of Sam's followers to read this one, and I'm sure they'll agree with me thereafter. It's fiction at it's very best. Besides being a thriller and a sci-fi novel with tons of futuristic ideas and technologies, it's also a treatise on future economy, politics, et al.

I was just looking for a new book. Thanks for the recommendation!

Sure, let me know what you think.

Won't a torturer draw the wrong conclusions from having a bad experience with the wood chipper?

Did you and Matt discuss free will?
-
On FW, there's a compatibilistic definition of "free will" that I think is ok: something like "not having one's will impeded or dictated by another agent." This might be ok for law, and maybe some Compatibilists only take it this far but most seem to want to justify just deserts.
-
I didn't have to think about compatibalists for a while. Shame on you for ruining that.
