Are you kidding me? Dave Rubin is one of if not the most open minded people we currently have hosting public forums. In what way would you possibly consider him insufferable? A man who’s opinion is constantly open to change is nothing but the opposite

Name one instance? It seems to me that he’s offered quality arguments and decides if those are better than the current one he agrees with

Not sure why Taleb is this Achilles heel for you, Sam. The contempt is beneath you. Taleb is who he is. He is arrogant and condescending, but also knows his field well. You don’t need to like him personally to treat him with respect.

No he’s just arrogant. That’s fine as a personality trait. But it’s harmful as an epistemic trait.

The problem with @nntaleb is that he doesn't know how to disagree with people in a civilized way. Being a "public intellectual" involves knowing how to behave in public. It's in the damn job title.

He doesn’t want to be a public intellectual. He wants to be a shlubby guy who proudly deadlifts, hangs out with cabbies, and takes all his medical/diet advice from his grandma. And eats squid ink all day every day

but that's exactly why so many love him: because of his "character" flaws. makes him interesting. most "intellectuals" are very very similar.

I think you’re talking about “eccentric” geniuses. They don’t typically spend energy trying to get everyone to notice and appreciate their eccentricities.
