This obsession of asking admired celebrities to run for president is the misperceived idea of democracy. We must recognize politicians and policy makers are professionals first and no one should run for president without real understanding of governance and grass root experience.

For the sake of political correctness, please don’t jump on this bandwagon. This is a dangerous precedent where we are turning our presidential election into a popularity contest and name recognition is taking front seat than ideas and experience. This is not any trophy to have it
-
Perhaps, but also perhaps this is a wave that we have no control over and we might have to work with it. I would rather it be Oprah Winfrey than Kanye West.
-
In that hypothetical, crazy ,twisted dimensional world if we were going to live, sure, would rather have her but my point is should we all begin cheering for her now and discourage potentially good candidates with legitimate experience and realistic ideas.

Like who? The Democratic lineup is embarrassing
-
Have you really been fooling yourself into believing that elections aren't popularity contests? Democracy is literally selection by popularity.

No, don’t do it. One TV celebrity president with no governmental executive, legislative, and judicial experience is one too many.

I just have one question. If she's elected will I be getting a free car?

Celebrity turned politician, with no experience, an over inflated ego and a poor grasp of science....what could possibly go wrong!

If Oprah is the only Democrat that could defeat Trump, then would would you rather have Trump or Oprah?
-
I would prefer almost any Democrat over Trump.
-
I consider the modern presidency to be at bottom a PR job. Oprah certainly could handle that, but does she have the toughness to play gloves off politics? She combines two traits that motivate Trumpists. She would have to overcome both.

Two reasons this is a bad idea. Dr. Oz and Deepak Chopra. Just say no to pseudoscience.

“The idea that the presidency should become just another prize for celebrities — even the ones with whose politics we imagine we agree — is dangerous in the extreme.” // I agree
