This goes both ways though. To reform Islam also requires trust. If the perception is that the West hates Islam, our efforts are hamstrung.
-
I don't see why the hell it's the West that has to reform Islam, or that it can. Islam has to reform Islam.
-
If the West represents the values we want Islam to inherit, any attempt to reform in that direction will be viewed as Westernisation.
-
Westernisation requires trust in the west.

Is there a single thing in this article that a reasonable, rational, thinking person could object to or disagree with? I can't find one.
-
The part where she preaches liberalism.

-
Reasonable, rational, thinking people don't think "liberal" is a bad thing to be. Who would oppose true liberty? Those on both extremes.
-
Actually, liberalism is trash. Happiness is more important than the freedom to be cruel to others.
-
"Liberalism" is just a label, often used by the strident right against leftish silliness. It's just part of the political tribalism problem.
-
Liberalism is defending Saudi Arabia while attacking Venezuela. Not just a label. It's idealism for the many and pragmatism for the rich.
-
No, it's just a label you're applying to people doing or saying things you don't like. No true liberal would defend illiberal Saudi Arabia.
-
I've encountered many liberals who defend American support for Saudi. They are trash. Don't engage in No True Scotsman fallacy.

She gives people too much credit. Cognitive dissonance will not let most people admit they were wrong. They won't remember who said what.

@SarahTheHaider Is it not troubling to expect humans to recognize a problem and then choose the worst possible of leaders. -
Are we that one dimensional, in that if you are right about the economy who cares that you are racist bigoted chauvinist dictatorial etc.
-
It's like I'm being told, "tell this man you love him because if you don't he'll choose an abusive relationship where he's told he's loved".
