if you'd brought more an interviewer's spirit than a debater's there would be more insight. Love ur work etc

The podcast is not an interview format, but a conversation. That's what makes it great.
-
it was an adversarial conversation not a curious conversation.
-
That's what philosophy is, if they all agreed, philosophy wouldn't even exist

agreed but not on sams part. This whole truth thing in light of everything happening with alternative facts ?
-
it might be painful but I believe Sam's trying to understand his position. Hats off to you Mr Harris.
-
completely agree I appreciate sam trying so hard and think it was important and necessary

I really hope you won't budge on truth, but consider discussing other topics of interest to salvage something

Sam was right to press the point. No meaningful way to proceed without untangling Peterson's mystifying POV
-
agreed, if you accept facts are subject to consequences then you can believe nearly anything

just agree to disagree. you're not omniscient & your trivial thought experiments where you control all the facts isn't reality, it adds zero
-
Do you know the validity and importance of thought experiments in the field of philosophy?
-
creating scenarios w a cult thatll kill one for the # of body hairs or labs making smallpox to end the world.they can be useful HIS WERE BAD
-
thought experiments are the only way to get to the bottom of any philosophical proposition. Its the only thing they can do
-
i concede that, but you have to agree that there's a spectrum of good & bad thought experiments. sams weren't good bc thought up on the spot
-
How else could he do it? He didn't know what Peterson's arguments, he has to design a scenario to see his proposition in action
-
shouldve agreed to disagree came back in an open letter after coming up w legitimate examples that jordan wouldntve been forced to laugh off
-
In philosophy the definition of truth is paramount, without it there's no conversation to be had
