If it's "1 life to save 5" why not throw yourself onto the tracks?
-
Millions of years of evolved self preservation drives instinctively stop this. Jumpers dont make good parents.
-
That explains the reasoning for sure, but throwing yourself in front of the train is still ethical

The problem I have with the bridge version is doubt. How do I know the body will stop the trolley?
-
It kind of misses the point though. If you remove the doubt factor, the intuition is still strong to resist pushing.
-
I get that, but the doubt clouds my judgement. Makes it hard to give an honest answer.

The experiment would implode if you pitted five people against one tiny adorable kitten.

If the thought exercise is worth anything it shows how any "moral calculus" must dismiss countless unknowns
