"Making Sense of Gaza: A Conversation Between Sam Harris and Andrew Sullivan"http://bit.ly/1ramjTV
@elZindiq I love Rumi, but the Sufi's are hardly representative of the faith. They are often considered apostates themselves.

@SamHarrisOrg Not sure I agree. Until recently, Sufi Islam had considerable influence in South/Central Asia (now Taliban country) -
@elZindiq It didn't work out so well for Al-Hallaj (854-922). On the other side, there have been some very intolerant Sufis.
-
@SamHarrisOrg before this discussion gets swamped, perhaps we could have an exchange on email? -
@elZindiq Sorry, but I have 3000 unread emails. No bandwidth for an exchange. But you're welcome to enlighten me on any points.

@SamHarrisOrg Understand. Interested in your response to this:https://twitter.com/elZindiq/status/499798744607367170 … -
@SamHarrisOrg BTW, on Taqiyya: I guarantee if there's a survey, 99.9% Muslims don't even know what it means. Borderline fiction. -
@SamHarrisOrg & finally FWIW the Quran explicitly and repeatedly invokes context (Sunnah & Hikmah) - it's not all about the verses. -
@SamHarrisOrg in other words, the Quran explicity asks Muslims to contextualize .. which explains myriad interpretations over time
