Question on Syria: Shouldn't we just arm the moderates (in so far as we can find them)?

@SamHarrisOrg All the 'moderates' are fine with Assad & merely want an end to the conflict. Its the fanatics/al qaeda who are in the fight

@vijaygkg Do you have any sources on that? That's not how the media seem to be reporting it.

@SamHarrisOrg @vijaygkg this is a confusion over the word "moderate". The FSA is not moderate, (they are armed rebels), but they're secular.

.@lt_diablo @vijaygkg Yes, by "moderate" I mean (comparatively) secular.

@SamHarrisOrg @vijaygkg right; & even though it's a joke to many, secular Syrians do exist &they hate Jihadists as much as they loathe Assad

@SamHarrisOrg How do we trust those who say they are moderate to actually be moderate?

@sjzara Well, clearly that would require some intelligence. But we know that some of the people fighting Assad aren't jihadists.

@SamHarrisOrg If we know that, then I can't see a disadvantage to your idea, if only to provide forms of self-defence.

@SamHarrisOrg I was thinking a better idea would be to drop Sam Harris' books attached to cute, little parachutes from B1 Bombers. #imo

@SamHarrisOrg The US is going there for oil because Assad won't the empire access it. Foreign policy has always been for resources.

@SamHarrisOrg Nice but would pose practical problems 1) finding them 2) In a democracy, moderates may be the minority, rendering it futile.
