@SamHarrisOrg India - second most populous Muslim nation - shows that religious ecstasy and sectarianism is more political than theological

@peterjukes The only salient difference between the groups is religious -- calling the divide "political" just confuses matters.

@SamHarrisOrg Yugoslav break up best described as Orthodoxy in conflict with Catholicism and Islam? Or Syrian war simply Alawite and Sunni?

@peterjukes Mostly. If you want to predict how a society will fracture -- it is usually safe to say that it will be along religious lines.

@SamHarrisOrg That fails first test. Biggest genocide in last 20 years was Rwanda. Was that a religious split? Or political and cultural?

@peterjukes I've never said that all wars/genocides have been religious. But faith did play a role in Rwanda. The Virgin Mary kicked it off.

@SamHarrisOrg But you said it was safe to see most wars in religious terms. Does not explain Hutu Tutsi. Nor major conflicts of 20th Century

@peterjukes most doesn't mean all and it might have been more accurate to say "...along ideological lines" Stalinism, nazism @SamHarrisOrg

@SamHarrisOrg I agree but to include WWII it MIGHT be more accurate to say ideological, religion being a subset of ideology @peterjukes

@peterjukes @danabrahmsen Yes. You point the larger problem of dogma. The problem with Stalinism is that it was so much like a religion...
