To be clear, I don’t condone milkshake attacks. It’s wrong. Is it violence? No, unless you’re the super-sensitive type. Is it funny? Yes. Is it a gateway to terrorism? Come on. Not condoning something doesn’t mean you can’t find it hilarious. It’s like those funny fails videos.https://twitter.com/Hallothere12/status/1131033537283538944 …

History in the Netherlands has proven this is the case. It is a first step that can end up in violence and murder. There is no reason to throw milkshakes or pies to anyone you don’t agree with. It act of aggression that stems from their own powerlessness.

If this is the case then surely a milkshake splatter serves as a relatively benign wake-up call for the target to up their security

But they are not assassinations. They are not mock assassinations. They are an expression of utter disgust. A humiliation reserved for those who are truly beyond the pale. As a society we appreciate that it is in bad taste but it’s just inside the realms of acceptable behaviour.

We do not, as a society, accept murder. We collectively and almost completely unanimously condemn in abject horror this kind of behaviour.
