So because you don't agree with the behaviour of an organisation you choose to disocciate yourself from it. Which is essentially what Patreon has done, which causes a bit of a paradox as they are just doing what you are doing, and you find that behaviour unacceptable. :)

@rrorge That is a great point!, made me think harder about my own position. One diff between the two: Patreon is part of the infrastructure, so their boycott actions are a form of censureship. Infrastructure cos and very large internet aggragators should stay content neutral.

@SamHarrisOrg is a public figure and influential, him publicising his position is effectively creating a form of censorship to the platform. I'm not disagreeing in what he is doing, but there is a certain amount of hypocrisy with free speech absolutists taking any position

He’s not censoring anyone. He has no adminsitrative power over Patreon nor is he the one making decisions about who gets to earn money on a platform based on political litmus tests.

.@Patreon isn’t #censoring anyone either. They’re exercising their #freedomofassociation. Private organizations aren’t required to provide unlimited access to their resources. #Bookpublishers, #newspapers, etc. all have the right to determine who can & can’t use their services.

Private entities don’t owe anyone a platform.

Yeah... this really raised him a motch or two in my book. I had gotten annpyed with his TDS and had stopped supporting him. I'm rethinking that now.

Not a fan of his, but I can’t hate a man who has principles - and actually puts himself on the line to defend them. Huge respect in a world full of big talk by big cowards.

I viewed you as an intelligent man and now I view you as ethical and principled too. It is not easy to give up the money and go against the herd mentality in your position. You loose money and will get blow back just for your principles. Respect!
