God love ya Sam but you're a bit detached from reality.

Sam: Your late friend Christopher Hitchens would have laughed at you for wishing for a "reboot of politics from the center". To him, polarization was an encouraging sign, and today I think it is too.

@bmkhawk, I'm inclined to agree with Brian. Given most of what Sasse *says,* it's a fantastic speech. But it seemed to me that he was trying to somehow downplay the importance of a SC justice. 'It's just one individual, a single SC justice.' -
He also seems to insist that there's a version of BK that left and right moderates can latch on to. While I'm no fan of the vitriol emanating from soc media or cable news, it's obvious that BK has no concept of impartiality; and just imagine if the assault charges are true.

I think it’s important not to mistake moderation in demeanor for centrism in ideology or policy. Sasse is very conservative.
-
But that’s the whole point. We need to get to a point where we can vehemently disagree with each other, but with respect.

@BenSasse definitely isn’t a centrist. He sometimes likes to fool himself into thinking he’s principled, and sometimes he fools others in the process, but in the end he’s just another compromised partisan.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Why does it matter who said it? Does the message have merit or not? FFS how can so many be so confused?!
-
In politics, “messages” can be fine and good, but if your actions (votes) don’t follow the same principles, then you are nothing more than a used car salesmen.
-
Agreed, and I’d say that applies in general, not just in politics. Yes, talk is cheap. However, the subject here isn’t the judgement of the messenger, but rather of the message itself, which does have merit and from which we could all benefit as individuals and as a society.

Ignore the talk. Watch the walk. The words are the cover for the actions. I’ll stick with TR on this one.

Sasse does this every month or so and then goes on acting and voting like your standard whipped conservatuve

You don't have to wait and see. Look at his voting record. I follow Sasse on Twitter and he LOVES to play the "oh what have we become" card while voting in lock step with Trump.

We don't need centrists, leftists *or* rightists. Just people willing to be thoughtful and rational. The last thing we need is a centrist purity test.

There is a move at present to redefine the centre by right wingers. It’s aim, I beleive, is to facilitate the “far left” narrative through obfuscation (or, if successful, an actual shifting) of the spectrum’s neutral axis to the right.

Which has already occurred.
