The perils of being a woman in every moment in history:https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/23/us/why-i-didnt-report-assault-stories.html …

This is a non sequitur. It may explain and justify delayed reporting, but it does not make every allegation 100% factual.
-
No. But the fact that someone is popular, like Cosby and Baruma, does not make them innocent.
-
Ghomeshi was the accused, not Buruma. True though, popularity shouldn't mean anything.
-
Good catch. I apologize to Buruma for my mistatement.

Almost like you should be more careful and less certain...

I have some tips for getting through those perils: Hold your keys as a potential weapon. Look in the back seat of the car before getting in. Carry a cell phone. Don't go jogging at night. Lock all the windows when you sleep, even on hot summer nights.
-
Be careful not to drink too much. Don't put your drink down and come back to it; make sure you see it being poured. Own a big dog. Carry Mace or pepper spray. Have an unlisted phone number. Have a woman's voice on your answering machine. Park in well-lit areas.
-
Don't use parking garages. Don't get on elevators with only one woman, or with a group of women. Vary your route home from work. Watch what you wear. Don't use highway rest areas. Use a home alarm system. Don't wear headphones when jogging.

This applies to boys as much as girls. A heard a guy got murdered by what he thought was a hot date he met online. It turns out his hot date was a dude with a knife. His 1st clue to danger should have been that she wanted to meetup in a back alley.
-
right.
#alllivesmatter It applies to boys AS MUCH as girls

Sam - this article discusses your podcast with Christian Picciolini, and what it demonstrates about the root cause of ideologically driven intolerance/irrationality. https://lt3000.blogspot.com/2018/03/motivated-reasoning-and-root-cause-of.html …

He was a risk taker and took a risk that didn’t pay off. He knew what he signed up for. It’s an exciting and robust moment in publishing and the handwringing and bemoaning over “the scary
#metoo
movement” is getting tiresome. Consequences, whowouldhavethunkit.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Hi Sam. Big fan of yours. This sort of reaction probably has a lot to do with the extremely biased reporting we have seen on the Kavanaugh case as well. I do fear for our democracy, sometimes. https://lt3000.blogspot.com/2018/09/kavanaugh-gate-and-human-irrationality.html …

Lot of handwringing when the mob descends on someone of your ilk. Not so much when it turns its focus to those you disagree with.
