Is it realistic, though, to expect such hyper-fast speeds when spread out over the vast expanse of the U.S.? Also, what advantage is there really on a day-to-day basis? I guess video streaming quality could be higher? I typically get around 80/80 and it seems sufficient.
-
1) It is extremely realistic. 2) Also, clustered computing, faster trading, more equitable information. The advantages are numerous as the aggregate of time saved will be huuugge. Your question is like asking if there’s really any advantage from switching from horse to car
-
I'm all in favor of faster internet. But I'm pretty sure it's not like switching from a horse to a car.

-
More like from car to... a faster car. I think your question is perfectly valid — I don’t see how the same connectivity could be (reasonably) provided throughout the sparsely-populated and vast expanses of the US.

I lived in Japan for a while with gigabit internet and coming back to the States was rough.

I can have that speed at half the price in eastern europe but then again our median income is about 650 usd per month in my region. I had to settle for 350 for 15 usd, all I have left is some american tears to cheer me up...

That would be with
@AjitPaiFCC and the@FCC for doing away with#NetNeutrality
and allowing ISPs to rejigger internet traffic rather than make more room for it. -
Actual the exact opposite is what caused that. Since 2014, when Net neutrality was brought in large ISPs stopped building infrastructure because, well they didn’t need to since didn’t have any competition. Now that it is gone, it will turn around.
-
You would think so, but no. In fact, without
#NetNeutrality
, different "Internet service providers" won't even really be competing with one another ultimately because the services they offer will diverge and become distinct. Whatever that is, it's not the Internet.

At the "first world problems" outlet mall. The store is between "tired of changing passwords" and "Amazon delivery showed took 3 days."

This kind of rent seeking is an important part of currently-existing capitalism that is broken. Finding these parts and eliminating them, whilst encouraging real productivity and without implementing tyranny is the challenge of the 21st century.

Could you come across any more like a Gen X reactionary?

I'm sure he could.

That's true. He forgot to mention participation trophies or safe spaces.
