“Hearing that the Catholic Church is raping children should be as surprising as hearing that Google and Facebook are selling your data.” Exactly. I’m so surprised that people are still ‘shocked’ by this!

This is only within the first 10 minutes of the podcast, btw.. not a representation of what the rest is about at all (I’ve only just started it but I though that quote was worth reposting)

Sam Harris getting transphobic? Sure was expected. He already revealed he's a racist, sexist, war loving piece of sh*t.

An excellent interview actually talking about science! Thank you for spreading valuable information in an engaging way!
-
Not really science when she said sex could be related to what you feel you want to be. (Paraphrased) Turned it off after that. At least she recognizes that chromosomes and sexual differences do exist though.
-
Agreed. Sounded like much of it was classifying modern social/sexual constructs rather than actual science.

Many cycle studies discussed here did not replicate or weren't solid. This was mostly known before the book was written. Incredibly outdated take. https://twitter.com/rubenarslan/status/1034400302072512512 … Some sources: http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/0956797613520236 … https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0112042 … https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=KXPrv7kAAAAJ&hl=en&oi=ao …

Frankly over this debate, it seems like a first world issue, life is so good for us in the West we invent something to be upset over and debate. Can we refocus our energies on curing cancer? Heart disease? Putting a man on mars (oops there it goes) ? How about improving farming?
-
Just because it doesn’t mater to you, doesn’t mean it’s not important. Not everyone can focus their energy on those things you deem important. Plus I would rather us work on all branches of knowledge because they inform one another.
-
I would hope fighting deadly disease and feeding the human population isn’t just something “I care about”
-
Of course not. But to me it seem you think that people can just stop working on areas of science you think are a waste of time and be useful in fields like cancer research.
-
Again your equating my point with your assertion of faulty logic, nobody said halt all science I don’t agree with. I’m saying let’s prioritize what’s important, for example a study was done seeking why cats meow, fascinating as that is, aids research takes priority in my view
-
I’m pretty sure the fields you mentioned are already prioritized.
-
Except for improving farming. I have no idea about that.

This one didn't hit the notes for me. Unlike other episodes, I've only just listened and my takeaway has faded out. The topic seems promising, but it wandered without punctuation, or navigation, maybe.
-
It sounds more like theories of an undergrad than ... a prof.

It shouldn't. It was a lovely talk.
