I'm confused. This is "special content" for subscribers who pay money yes? I am a "spiritual teacher" who gives my time and work for free. I don't have any money but would like to listen to this. Am I mistaken about the need to pay for the content?
-
Yes, I believe this is a way for SH to generate money that he can use to buy food and clothing for himself and his family. You are not mistaken.

I was aware that I would get replies like yours. I know how important, especially on social media, it is for some egos to need to be aggressive and superior. I am not against him charging for services. Your sarcasm is unwarranted.
-
I was starting to tell myself you're wrong ... but then I thought about it ... and you're right. I apologize. That was an egoic response. I didn't practice the principle of charity as I try to do. Even though it doesn't exist, the ego is rather annoying =(.

I live daily with this argument of charge or don't charge for services that benefit struggling people (suicidally depressed people are the majority that seek my help) who are usually poor because they are suffering. It's not an easy subject and your points are not invalid.
-
I don't know that it was the intention to charge for a service, rather his AMA is a benefit of supporting the podcast. Had this not been an AMA it would be free.

Does meditation work? Has anyone seen any benefits from it?

Thanks Sam. I find this the most difficult area of your work to connect with. I’m a bit Richard Dawkins about it and find a lot of the guidance about mindfulness confusing. Read your spirituality book, though. Will give the AMA a listen and perhaps have another pop at it.

None of those questions matter. Ignore all of that mental chatter and concentrate on the touch of the air passing through your nostrils and nothing else. Total concentration delivers a new experience and the answers all questions will follow.

It ain’t Buddhism without Karma/Rebirth/Emptiness/Compassion entwined-prompting a REASON to http://meditate.It ’s a philosophy with metaphysical claims suggesting you will understand if you practice. Not a faith claim.A report. What you’re espousing is just secular mindfulness.
-
Aka secular Buddhism
-
Then...leave out the Buddha part. He was a person who directly taught the aforementioned features as interdependent aspects of a philosophy & practice which leads to “enlightenment”. Secular Christianity ?

Meditation is nothing more than relaxing the brain. Just as you sit or lay down to relax your bones/muscles. Let's not go overboard and complicate matters.
