This is a minor point for the purposes of this interview, but it's not at all clear that "the world is more free of suffering today than at any point in history" (Bremmer 18:03).pic.twitter.com/kTAU4MSEKW

This was a major issue I had with Steven Pinker’s whole point about the progress and flourishing of human culture. Sure, humans are better off but that’s only taking into account one species. The fact that there’s so many of us now results in so much more animal suffering.
So inequality makes people want to smash the system, and then they vote for parties that excerbate the inequality.
Indeed. And then neither @SamHarrisOrg nor @ianbremmer points out the stupidity of doing that. Instead, they claim to "understand" it.
What @ianbremmer said was he is sympathetic to those who want to smash the system, he even compares it to brexit, in that it was obviously stupid, but to people that believe no matter what they do the system will benefit the rich and disadvantage them, it seems rational.
Another raging Russophobe.
Some prefer democracy and some (very few) prefer dictatorships. You sound like the latter.. I get it—you’re so pumped Russia is dumping treasury debt. Lol.
You are either an empire or you're part of someone else's. This has nothing to do with democracy.
Excellent discussion - definitely one of my favorites.
My two favorite thinkers.
Well what! Just started following him and now a podcast from Sam awaits me for my Sunday gardening, great!
@ianbremmer reveals either ignorance or dishonesty when he completely rephrases Trump's criticism of Germany and then blames the liberals for escalating it.
Really hard to take somebody serious who actually believes that Trump genuinely cares about the pipeline instead of simply saying anything to weaken NATO. The way he quotes Trump as if his words hold any meaning is frustrating to say the least.
Indeed. The legitimate criticism was that the pipeline undermined the other European countries in the face of Russia, as @ianbremmer stated. Yet that wasn't what Trump's criticism was about which warranted correct backlash.
