I enjoyed the listen. But I was very disappointed in Nina's opinion on the impact of diet on health and her dismissal of the health benefits of a keto diet. I've helped far to many of my friends regain good health by going vlc/keto to not be a firm believer.
I agree. Disappointing. I was glad Sam brought up the antiquated cholesterol advice and the fact that Celiac and gluten-sensitivity are real, but her answers were dismissive and lacking. Keto has long been used to successfully treat Epilepsy. The impact of diet is real.
Nobody said celiac disease and gluten sensitivity were not real. But the percentage of the population suffering from it is far below what is self reported. Also, I don't remember her saying that Keto was ineffective in treating epilepsy.
I think diets in general require its own separate podcast, too broad to cover so slightly.
Definitely. But dismissing diet as a primary factor in overall health is naive and shows just how little is known about the importance of it in the general medical community.
I was really disappointed that Dr. Shapiro avoided every single insider question as you tried ever so gently to open the door. Sounds like Shapiro has to pay way too much attention to politics? If you know someone in fundraising, you have a medical back door.
Please tell me this is the famous doctor wife of @benshapiro
Is this Ben "my wife is a doctor" Shapiro's wife?
I enjoyed hearing Sam talk about his kids. I wonder if would ever do a podcast with them.
As someone who lived with a medical resident for years and suffered as she did, wish you had pushed @drninashapiro on how it remains a burdensome, difficult, burnout-inducing task and position worsened by electronic medical record/documentation requirements she likely didn’t face
Like most doctors, Nina doesn't know much about nutrition. I barely learned anything in this episode which was mostly a waste of time. (Texting while driving?
) For a serious conversation on the topics I suggest inviting @PeterAttiaMD and Dr. Martin Makary.
Honestly this was a little depressing... The gap between public knowledge and insider knowledge is huge. This asymmetric information gap is ultimately what breaks down the economics of the industry and allows pharma/healthcare companies to continue to exploit us. @drninashapiro
I was hoping for more from this podcast. She didn’t say anything helpful, just gave wandering bland answers to Sams questions. And then her take on diet was so obtuse and disinterested. Please get @DominicDAgosti2 or @foundmyfitness on your podcast ASAP!
The take-home point from the podcast: stop looking for interesting fads; you don’t need special vitamins; do you’re research, but there’s no special trick to effective treatment; get a second opinion and a third if they are conflicting.
I think it’s great advice.
Exactly. Bland, generic and unhelpful. Got it
I found the view of the dr. naive. It is not the experience of most civilians.
As Sm pointed out and the doctor dismissed, doctors treatment is based in anecdotal experience and not factual evidence. AI will help narrow the gaps in care.
What is a balance diet. I think that’s what sam was asking. Why there is so much disagreement about what humans should eat. Without getting diabetes, obesity, Heart disease etc.
