Thanks, Sam. I was surprised to at how receptive people on both sides of the aisle were to the idea that the crisis isn't about "free speech" and is only temporarily about college campuses.

I believe he was implying that the crisis on college campuses is only temporarily about college campuses, and that it will soon seem to permeate everywhere.

You have teaching skill. You don't veer off. You quote, you stay close to the wording. W/ very few additional words--you have changed the sentence.

Much obliged

This BS about free speech crisis has made Bret a lot of money. Bret is just an incompetent academic who could not be hired by any other place. Now, Bret keeps pushing this fabricated free speech crisis to get attention and lectures. Good thing nobody gives a shit about Bret.

Well, if you think one tweet does give the notion that Bret is super important in my life, ok then.

You know it takes a few seconds to type a tweet like thar, don't you?Maybe you have some sort of learning disability, then it'd take "quite a bit of time" and that's fine.

Hey there, free speech warrior. I’m wondering what you think about the
@nfergus situation? You know, collecting dirt to silence a undergrad, that whole thing? -
Sam only seems to care about the free speech of the wealthy and connected. Preferably conservative. Struggling vulnerable students don’t register.

How many times do we have re-debate Nazism and conservative trolls to decide they're not worth having any more time on SCHOOL platforms? We have finite "bandwidth" and there are PLENTY of other important topics to platform.
-
We're not debating any of those things, we're debating whether there is a limiting principal to what speech is considered 'unacceptable' and who makes such considerations. We're debating to what degree adult students need be 'protected' and what that actually means.
-
I think every rational person agrees, there should be no theoretical limit to free speech, but there is a time/resource limit to platforming ideas. I agree with many on the panel that school administrators should be allowed to have input into prioritizing.
-
So nothing specific then?
-
I just don't think things are very broken now. The faux premise of this discussion is that somehow schools are too "liberal" and "free speech" is served by representing more conservative ideology...I just don't buy it.
-
But it's not about 'serving' any particular ideology - though part of it would definitely involve the frequency which very liberal people find themselves accused of being 'nazis,' with no oversight whatsoever.
