Free speech has nothing to do with workplace conduct.

The workplace in question caved to pressure from the head of state of the country to stop the protest. While I don't deny the NFL has the right to choose this, it is definitely concerning when the government is involved in suppression of protest.

No they didn’t. They caved to the decline in revenue. It’s just business.

Would have been way better for them to day that. Totally appropriate, too. They chose to feign nationalism.

Usually agree with you Sam but I do believe you're wrong on this one. Players should absolutely be allowed to protest but not on company time and still keep their job/ be paid. The company makes the decision based on what is good for their revenue and they get to make the rules.

Players are not kneeling when they're supposed to be working . You think they would be more productive if they stood for those 2 minutes?

When in uniform, they are embassadors for the team's brand. If the employer does not want their brand associated with a certain political stance they are well within their rights to reprimand the players, compelling them to conform would also be bad, but they allow abstaining.

Same true of university? Deplatforming OK if the uni doesn’t want their brand associated with a certain political stance?

More of a complex issue, universities are imo supposed to be a place of free thinking, where ideas are developed and challenged. I feel that people are paying to watch sports not engage ideas wrt the nfl.

universities have a right to restrict speech of faculty members/staff under their employment but I believe that exercising that right would be a bad thing to do usually and would be disingenuous, and detrimental to the product they provide students.

Like I've said in several threads now I think a more apt comparison would be requiring employees of a restaurant like McDonald's to abstain from wearing a make America great again hat.
