When I was in middle school I wanted to be an inventor. Turns out I suck at mechanical engineering, so I went into software. I just realized today that I became an inventor, I just invent new software. Weird how things work out!

I don't want to be smart, I want to avoid being smart by having computers be aggressively stupid very fast for me.

Also a huge thank you to everyone on twitter who let me know about cool things to apply to! I'd like to write a little article about how I went about my job search, but who knows when that will happen!

Good news everyone! Next week I will be joining the development team at Onosys, where I'll be working on some really cool mobile and web apps! These past few years of full-time entrepreneurship have been amazing, but I'm excited to start the next chapter of my career!

I’ve had multiple conversations with high performing leaders this week that feel uncomfortable or guilty when they aren’t working 120% their capacity. If you’re a leader or influencer in our community, think twice about what you signal and say about hustle culture. It’s toxic.

Last todoist thing: every year they do this 'Year in Review' where they send you stats about how much you have done! I look forward to it every year, and it's coming up soon so I'm amped about it! /15

So since this is on my list, I'm able to convince myself that I'm being productive, while also doing something that I enjoy! The next step is to let myself enjoy time that isn't 'productive' /14

What I try and do is focus on completing specific things, and get joy from completing them. Like literally I think only about the joy of checking something off. So since this thread is a task, I'm actually thinking about trying to check something off my list. /13

My last strategy is a little fuzzier. A lot of time in my work I do things that don't pay off. So much of programming is research, and sometimes research doesn't pan out. It's really easy for me to work on something and feel like I've done nothing. /12

This includes just about everything. Shopping items. Ideas for business. Twitter thread actually started as an idea that I threw into my inbox. This is a core concept in GTD, the framework that lies underneath a lot of todoist as a product. /11

My next favorite thing is actually two things, the quick add widget and the inbox. With the widget I can add a task without going into the full app. Whenever I think of something it goes into the inbox, where I can process it when I get a chance. /10

This is also super nice because if I get interrupted, I can pick things up where I left off. This also helps me reduce stress, since all the things I need to do exist outside of my brain. /9

I take some of the big stuff I'm trying to do and break it down into little pieces. Sometimes absurdly small. If I can't get started on something, I break it down until it's a bunch of stuff I don't sweat about. /8

This is a huge component of how I prevent getting overwhelmed by the wide variety of stuff I do. For me I tend to get overwhelmed when I try and hold too many things in my brain at once. When I start to feel that way, I break things down. /7

I also use subtasks to break tasks down into smaller tasks. This is super powerful for working on little pieces of bigger things that need to get done. /6

All the plants themselves are subtasks of that one task. That way everything is accounted for but I'm not drowning in the number of things I need to do in a day. /5

One of the most powerful features of todoist is subtasks. Some of my plants need to get watered every other day, so I have a task for all the plants that need to get watered every other day. /4
