Trump is a criminal—and the 52 Senate Republicans who voted to “acquit” him are now complicit in his crimes. It’s no surprise that Trump thinks he’s above the law. He’s surrounded himself with criminals from the very beginning. See for yourself:

Senate Republicans stonewalled the impeachment trial, and now House oversight is more important than ever. Read my WaPo OpEd:

Outlines 3 steps: - pursue unfinished business, like Trump’s attacks on healthcare + stealing military $ for his wall - expose Senate coverup by subpoenaing witnesses like Bolton, Mulvaney, Rudy, Parnas + Fruman - investigate Trump + cronies for misuse of office for personal gain

Trump will be acquitted solely thanks to members of his own party. Democrats, independents and a Republican will join in support of his conviction.

There's lots of studied sneering on here about impeachment. But even if it didn't succeed, it built an extraordinary fact record that will keep yielding revelations. Ds proved willing to push the system to protect the country from a criminal president. GOP protected the criminal.

Romney will surely anger Trump. But in many ways it is the hypocrisy of colleagues like Collins and Murkowski and Alexander he exposes most.

Today, I have the solemn responsibility to uphold my oath of Growing up in Alabama I learned right from wrong. What the President did was more than wrong. Someone has to stand up & say so. I will fulfill my oath & vote in favor of both articles of impeachment.

“I would have liked to have abdicated my responsibility as I understood it under the Constitution and under the writing of the Founders by saying, ‘Let’s leave this to the voters.’" But, [Romney] said, “I’m subject to my own conscience.”

If you constantly complain about members of Trump's party never standing up to him, we ought to give credit to those who rise to the occasion. Mitt Romney has guts.

“Just because we’ve impeached Trump does not mean his schemes have stopped. He continues to be a one-man crime wave.” , to me. The damning fact record that impeachment built obligates Dems to continue trying to protect the country:

I feel like it's not clearly understood that Trump and his henchmen are continuing to implement aspects of the very same corrupt scheme that got him impeached -- right now, as we speak. All the more reason House Dems absolutely cannot back off now:

Me on why it's important to hear from Parnas: “Parnas can speak to the shady characters Rudy is talking to. Congress needs to figure out everything it can about Trump’s ongoing efforts to cheat in the upcoming election.”

So what should Democrats do now that impeachment is over? I argue in today that they should step on the gas and keep investigating the Trump admin as aggressively as they did in the Ukraine scandal. On every front.
