The best defense I’ve found against the world’s wolves is no defense; be smart, but never hide. The hero is never the one who evaded attack, but who was attacked & still went out into the forest afterwards.

I’m sympathetic to being obsessed with our wounds; I replay the times I was bitten in my mind too. Yet there’s a temptation to freeze & shrink yourself out of fear that’s worse than any wound.

Many of us get bitten & the shock freezes us; we get stuck in fear of ever being bitten again & can’t move forward. The wound becomes an obsession that prevents integrating the lesson & growing.

You go into the forest & you get bitten by wolves you hadn’t seen, but the crucial move is making sense of your bites to reorient yourself & teach others, & still going back into the forest.

The use of “Latinx” by major orgs reflects pandering to a microscopic portion of Latinos who are generally first-gen, mid & upper-mid class, heavy media consumers. Latinx is a market, not an identity.

Who doesn’t want love, sure, but what I dream of is not love today as a young person but the love I’ll have later—what an honor to face the second half of life with a partner.

Young couples annoy me. Maybe I’m bitter but it’s like seeing children play dress up. I don’t care about young people’s love. I’m fascinated by older couples. That is where the work & bravery is.

The most beautiful thing about love is middle aged & older people who are still in happy relationships. What an incredible feat to lose all the privileges of youth & still hold onto love.

All these movies about young couples in love. Young, relatively unmarred by the trauma of time, idealistic, & time-favored — there is nothing miraculous about young relationships.

The best part of having pets that no one admits to is having a captive audience to act deranged in front of with no repercussions. Freedom

There is the majority, if we are to generalize, of most Latinos who are either ordinary leftists as their tradition holds (not woke), conservative Latinos as per tradition, a massive quagmire, & then the new woke gen. I struggle to see a middle ground & that’s concerning.

This is a losing battle to even speak on; there may be 5 other LatinOs who haven’t rushed to drink the koolaid of empowerment through weaponizing identity & toeing modern western liberalism. There is a massive divide here.

Some of the absolute nastiest, ideology-addicted behavior I’ve encountered in woke liberals has come from “Latinx” liberals. It’s an embarrassment. Question it goddammit.

LatAm has a rich history of leftist intellectualism but the adoption of woke-flavored politics is a rejection of that tradition in favor of modern western leftism while still feeling entitled to attack that westernization from a position of the “other.” As such, it’s virulent.
