Let’s improve accessibility! Just found out LOTS of useful tips to make teaching materials accessible - strikes me it applies to in general. Screen-reader accessibility v important -> use heading structure in Word, contents, alt. text, avoid tables, describe hyperlinks

As of today, 1000 other papers have cited my work :D Someone once told me that we all contribute a few little chips into the great big collaborative sculpture of science - I like that analogy

Turns out changes in the 'shape' of coral reefs, rather than percent live corals, has a bigger impact on juvenile fishes after a mass bleaching event. Cool new paper by , and colleagues: . A first thesis chapter well done!

“...unprofessional peer reviews are pervasive & ..disproportionately harm underrepresented groups in STEM” Thanks for highlighting this paper . An important finding & 1 more reason not to be a/an (insert expletive here) when you review

CRITIQUE: Recent paper suggesting breakdown in coral spawning synchrony used incomparable data / sampling effort, which could explain increased spawning event frequency Baird & Edwards. Original paper

As an associate editor, my favourite types of reviewer declines - 3) a quick decline (thank you so much) 2) a quick decline with a suggestion of an alternative (so helpful) 1) a quick decline with suggestion of ECR alternative (my hero) Declining a review is fine when prompt

: Six months pregnant and leading a team in the field. It can be done! (Just stick to snorkel - no SCUBA until the baby's out, ladies!). Last photo is the end result, three years later.

Currently marking blog post coursework from UG students on “Do coral reefs have a future in our warming oceans?”. I don’t normally enjoy marking but I’m super impressed at how well these have been written :)

Our new paper in shows that ocean acidification doesn’t impair the behaviour of of coral reef fishes. I’ll break it down below.

IMPORTANT: 3yr transparent attempt to replicate studies showing strong effects of OA on coral reef fishes finds it is unable to replicate behavioural impairment. At All. In any species.
