In some ways, it reminds me of the FNM promo thing. It wasn't that the community hated FNM promos and wanted Wizards to turn them into tokens, it's that Wizards was choosing bad cards from promos.

The argument I've heard from Wizards for needing unique Buy a Box promos was that using promos from the set didn't really help sell boxes. This maybe be true, but it seems crazy to expect cards like Skyship Stalker, Wildfire Eternal and Burning Sun's Avatar to move product.

If you look at the start of the Buy a Box program the cards were great. Celestial Collonade, Birds of Paradise, Surgical Extraction, Day of Judgement (a big deal at the time). Then for some reason we started getting intro-pack level rares as the Buy a Box most sets.

I agree 100%. Solid cards that will see play for FMN promos. And top cards from the set for the buy-a-box promo. Like a full art Bolas for M19 would have been sweet
