There is no reason to think that the MLK claim refers to democratic socialism.

But that doesn't mean it's the same thing as the Scandinavian model. Times have changed and the words have been muddied deliberately. Just because he called himself a democratic socialist doesn't mean he's the same thing as what some (not all) call democratic socialism today.

Damnit dude that wasn't my point. I was just trying to say that the positions have drifted and what people called a socialist then isn't necessarily what qualifies as a socialist in popular discourse. MLK was a radical, and people pretend he was just a social democrat.

When you say capitalism and government you mean slightly different things than when others say the same. That is not what he said and that's not the conclusion you should draw.
