    The disembarkation of the 201 remaining survivors from is now complete. As rescue operations only legally end once survivors are disembarked in a Place of Safety, the 5 rescues of 247 people from unseaworthy boats in distress last weekend/Monday are now complete.

    The disembarkation process is halted for today. 46 survivors left the so far. 201 people, including a 5-month-old baby, remain onboard and will spend another night on the ship.

    The disembarkation of survivors from the just started in Pozzallo, with some of the unaccompanied minors and medical cases leaving the ship first. After surviving distress at sea, they had to wait on board up to 7 days, sailing through a storm. We wish them well.

    The has been assigned Pozzallo, Sicily, as a Place of Safety for the 247 survivors onboard. These women, children & men attempted to cross the sea in winter conditions because they "had no other way out", as many told our crew. Their rescue is soon complete.

    Amath* -19 y/o- onboard : "I left Senegal 10 years ago to find work in Libya. I went to jail 10 times. Each time, the guards or police hit me. Once, I tried to escape, they shot me in the leg. I have scars all over my back, they burnt me, and hit me again and again".

    Jemal* -16 years old, from Eritrea- onboard : “I left my country with my sister. She stayed in Sudan and gave me her ring to protect me. I spent 6 months in jail in Libya. I am happy she stayed behind after I saw what they do to women there. I heard their screams."

    247 survivors onboard the are still waiting for a Place of Safety to disembark despite 4 requests sent to the competent maritime authorities. On deck, some survivors explained to us why they risked their life fleeing the ordeal they went through in Libya👇

    Update: The weather conditions are deteriorating in the central Med. The is sailing through up to 4-meter waves, rain & up to 30 knots of wind, waiting for a Place of Safety. Most of the 247 survivors onboard are seasick & being care for by & teams.
